We were headed toward Stevens Pass do a short hike and take in the autumn colors but Hwy-2 was closed again for tree removal. This was per sign over I-5 just south of Everett. We turned around and headed for Snoqualmie Pass instead and did the hike around Gold Creek Pond. It was clear but there was a bit smoky haze. Still a nice walk to take in the colors.

Arrived to the trailhead around 9:45 with a few parking spots still available. The last section of road is a bit rough, but should be passible in most/all vehicles. Previous to today, we have only done this hike in the winter with snow. We were totally delighted by this hike with warm weather today! The views were gorgeous and the lake was pristine! The trail was well maintained and perfect for a quick hike with kiddos. We took about an hour going around the lake to take pictures and such. By the time we got back to the parking lot there wasn’t any parking spots available and people were parking on the road

We hiked around the pond, up the creek 5 miles, and 1/3 mile up towards Alaska Lake to a nice view of a colorful mountain side (photo 1). The fall colors have only just begun (a wild guess is the best colors are 10 days away or so). The best colors now are in the avalanche-cleared areas (photo 2). There are still many visual treats along the way, photos 3 and 4.

The pond is beautiful any season. The road in does have some good size potholes. Nothing you can’t go slow and get around in any vehicle. A few areas are getting a little bushy and overgrown when you first start and head to the right. A few of the boardwalks are patched and could cause some bumpy issues for wheelchairs or strollers. My dog and I had it mostly to ourselves. There where a couple families picnicking on this gorgeous Monday. In a few weeks the leaves will have turned and it will create a whole new beautiful scene.

Driving directions spot on. Gravel road has quite a few pot holes, take your time if you have a low clearance vehicle. Parking lot is paved with plenty of parking. Parking lot was filled when we arrived close to noon, but parked along the roadside, in the shade. NW Forest pass or America the beautiful required. There is a fee box to pay also. Pit potty with one potty. Trail is paved or boardwalk the whole way around. Nice, pleasant walk for out of town visitors who did not feel up to anything rigorous or with elevation. Lots of families on the trail today. Some flowers, water was a beautiful green/blue and so clear.
