Decided to chase the sun and hike Icicle Ridge on Saturday. I missed the mile marker for Icicle Road, but was able to turn around and find it, then also missed the Trailhead sign (hidden behind some bushes), be sure to monitor that 1.4 miles from the turn and you'll be good to go. Was fun to see how many other trails are past it though. Arrived at 10am and there were about 15 cars there. Plenty of parking still. This trail was great, the dry dirt can be a bit slippery at times if just in some running shoes. It's steady switchbacks up and enough to not kill your knees, but keep that heart rate up! There were a few people running up and down it! Everyone on the trail was so nice and proper etiquette, and once to the top, enjoyed the nice breeze and view while snacking on some lunch. Perfect day! We made it up in 1.5 hours and down in 1. Went and enjoyed Leavenworth's Ale Fest afterwards.

What a B-E-A-utiful day for a hike! Trail was clear, except for a few small snow patches up near the top and they were easy to walk across. Popular trail, as there was no shortage of fellow hikers and their K-9 companions to share the path with. The weather was perfect, the trail was in great condition, and the views were well worth the steady elevation gain. We'll definitely do this one again.

Stayed overnight in Leavenworth expecting a rainy day. Awoke to a beautiful sunrise and did a quick search of the area for kid-friendly, dog-friendly, moderate distance/elevation, and scenic payoff. This hike checked all the boxes. We started mid-morning expecting 2 miles up and 2 miles down but it felt much longer - perhaps 4 each way. We brought snacks and a picnic to motivate the kids and stopped every 3/4 miles or so. There were no particular areas that were treacherous or overly difficult other than the ridge itself that had a decent amount of snow and was a little slippery. The kids were fine going slow. From the top you get a 270 degree view of the area including where Rte 2 disappears into the pass, Leavenworth, and various ranges to the south. There were a decent amount of people on the trail, never too much that we didn't have our solitude most of the time. Overall I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5 as one I'd definitely do again with a different crowd interested in a casual Leavenworth hike.

We decided to spend the weekend in Leavenworth and hit up a hike there. It was a little tough finding where the trail started due to snow, but we could see signage up ahead so it wasn't too much of a big deal. The trail itself was covered in intermittent snow as we wound our way up the ridge....lots of switchbacks! Definitely a little grueling at some points. There are a few small creeks/snow melt across the trail, but it was easy to navigate. Plenty of snow at the top...traction devices advised. Beautiful hike and well worth the effort to see those views.
