Beware of: bugs, trail conditions

DEAR LORD, THE MOSQUITOES! This was the second time attempting this trail and both times turned back because of the bugs (1st time was last year, early June). You could see them as you drove to the parking lot and started swarming as soon as we stepped out of the car. And these things are HUGE! In addition, both trails out to the ocean-side beach were flooded in places making it pretty impassable. We knew this was a possibility and planned to do the dune forest loop as an alternate trail but the bugs changed our minds. We ended up hanging out on the bay-side beach where we saw bear tracks, birds, and enjoyed a respite from the bugs.

I would love to know if there is a time of year, set of conditions, and/or alternate universe when this hike is doable without having to give a sizable blood donation.

MOSQUITOS GALORE!!!! Holy moley I've not seen big ones like this since living in Alaska! Do not stop to tie your shoe or you will be eaten alive! : ) Hike was awesome!! Totally recommend it. Weather was very warm and ocean water was actually warm. Beach is very clean and serene. Great place to relax!
