Lots already said about this trail so I would only add that if you bear left at all the junctions (there are only a couple) you will do the 250' of elevation gain gradually. Bear right at all the junctions and you'll get most of it out of the way in the first half mile. Wildflowers were out, Balsam Root just a bit past prime.

This is a great trail, the kids enjoyed the "forest" and seeing the deer. The trail head is easily accessible, right next to one of the park restrooms. There were some snowy spots on the trail, but nothing too bad, easy enough for the 10 year old and my husband carrying the 30 pound toddler to get over.
Where the trail gets to its farthest point and loops back, it was a little hard to figure out where the trail was, but we found it fairly easily.
I look forward to hiking this trail again.
