Wandered around Lord Hill for a while today while the sun was out, and the heat was up. The road to the parking area is gravel but it's not very long, just a couple pot holes. There are horse hitches at the main lot that looks like a loop on google maps. The trail itself is wide- mixed use for horses and bikes, there are a few that are foot trails only. Ran into minimal amounts of mud on my route, it was pretty dry. The trail is bursting with green. It was really quite and peaceful with the sound of birds, rustling grass, and leaves. The drive in and out of the area is nice too, everyone's yards look great and the dogwoods are blooming.

It's been a few weeks since I went to Lord Hill. It's amazing how quickly things change. Lots of green today. Bright green leaves on the vine maple. Tall green grass on the pipeline trail. Stinging nettles 3-4 feet tall. Ferns unfurling like sea horses. My dogs love it here. Cookie sunk up to her belly in mud a few times. Pepper just pranced around the edges of the puddles.

With my three and a half year old in tow we took the Southern approach today from Old Tester Rd and decided on Temple Pond. The road ends at a white gate (parking on the shoulder). Following the old pavement you climb a hundred feet or so and bear right at the fork. Shortly after near where the road bends left the Pipeline Trail heads straight up a meadow on the right gaining another hundred feet or so. (Just short of this the Pipeline Loop Trail takes off right and may be an easier ascent). If you take the meadow a small stream is crossed near the bottom and seepage from the meadow keeps the lower portion wet and muddy. Once at the top there's a bench for resting with a nice view. The rest of this trail is up and down along the pipeline swath. There's plenty of birds and some old growth trees still present. A ways down the trail you'll encounter a sign with trail information leading you a short distance further to the Temple Pond Trail which was muddy and hoof beaten.  Geese made a racket much to the delight of my daughter at the pond.  It was a great day for a short close in hike. Likely mileage was a few miles.
