Trail is in wonderful condition. Great to start early and beat the heat on this quick climb.
Be ready for a steep climb. It starts and doesn’t really end until you make it to the top. I would say it’s on the easy end of being a hard hike.
Don’t forget to check out the south end of the summit as well if you go on a clear day.
Latrines are at the top, but none at the bottom trailhead.
We were able to finish in about 2h 40min at a moderate pace but you will likely need a few breaks.

An intense hike as always, this time with some rhododendrons to gaze on while pausing for breath. The trail was in good condition, and thanks to recent rain not dusty. bringing poles is strongly recommended for the descent. A few people were slipping on the way down. Toilets at the top were open and fully supplied. #hikethestate

Rhodie report: 1% blooming…. Actually one bush in the full sun was blooming and the rest are probably 3-4 weeks out.
This trail is short and sweet (I mean steep). It is a good lesson in figuring out grade based on mileage and elevation gain. This is a mostly shady hike that was peppered with sweet wildflowers ( calypso orchid, trillium, strawberry, starflower). It is a great early season hike to get you ready for bigger hikes. There really isn’t any flat sections so be prepared for all uphill. The view towards the Olympic range was beautiful but the hood canal side was hazy.
