Beautiful day on Mt. Walker. Took the 2.25-mile trail up and put spikes on about 1.5 miles in. Stopped at the north viewpoint, then tramped the .5 miles to the sunny (on the day we were there) south viewpoint where the benches overlook the Hood Canal with Mt. Ranier in the background. Took the 4-mile road down and found the track through the snow rather narrow and hard to walk through. Snow lasted until we were about 1.5 miles from the TH. In retrospect, we wish we had taken the trail back down, despite what that 20% grade would have done to our knees.

Went up the trail and down the road; hit snow about 1.5 miles out and was glad to have spikes as the way definitely gets more slippery as you close in on the summit. No views whatsoever, but plenty of snow -- maybe ~2 feet at the peak? The road is another story though -- lots more snow and slush all the way down to about 1400'.

hiked up the road and down the trail.   snow depth averages about 10” on the road going up but closer to 8” hiking to the south view point.  the trail down averaged about 6” with a bit of ice.  only saw 3 other hikers on the trail

Winter has arrived! The snow started about a third of the way up, but never got particularly deep. I hiked the whole thing in rainboots and think the most I sunk in was a four or five inches. Nothing difficult to walk in, though it did begin to be more of a slog on the road on the top. It wasn’t icy at all, but I imagine it will be after a few more freeze/ thaw cycles so bring some spikes. This is a great winter hike because the trailhead is right off 101 so always accessible, and the road is gated so it’s much quieter. I only saw three other hikers today.

A great (but rather chilly) day to head up to the viewpoints! The Mountain was out! There is one blow down across the trail. No snow on the trail itself but some at the viewpoints and off to the sides just before the summit. All avoidable entirely.

The gate for the road is closed so parking is mostly on the 101. The road also had more snow/ice so if you plan to take that way back down, be prepared.

Took me 2 hours round trip at the grueling pace of a 9 month old puppy. It is steep with no real breaks from that unrelenting grade at any point. It just... keeps going until you question the very essence of the universe itself. My knees aged 2 decades on the way back down.

Somewhat busy as usual. It's a popular hike, especially on clear days. Lots of dogs and folks out enjoying the day.

For those wondering, there are some facilities at the viewpoints- outhouses, picnic tables, benches, etc. The outhouses at the south view point looked to be better off than near the north point. No facilities at the trailhead so stop somewhere in Quilcene to use the restroom ahead of time if needed.
