I took this trail past the regular turn off to Washington. Then after wrapping around to the south side there is an social trail up the last few hundred feet to the summit. I returned via the regular Washington trail.

This lolly-pop trail was ~20 miles all together with 3800' in gain. I saw about a half dozen cyclists and no hikers. The morning maritime layer burned off just after I left the summit. Ferns and spring flowers were most remarkable along this trail. The grade is generally always easy. The banked corners aren't great for hiking but for bikes they are great.

There was a patch or two of snow but that will be gone in a day or two.

The trail was in great condition. I'm not sure of the mileage in, but there was a tree down about a half hour into my ride. I was able to push my bike under the tree, then climb over it and keep going. Riders that passed me on their way down mentioned ankle deep snow farther up the trail.

We started out at the write off wall trailhead located just off of homestead road. The river flowing next to the trail is beautiful and has many photo opportunities. Once at the top we followed the iron horse trail towards the twin falls natural area where we connected with that trail. We went all the way to the upper twin falls waterfall and then turned around. Our hike was 5 miles total and the trail was in excellent condition. There was mud in places but this is the PNW that's to be expected.

On a previous hike to Ragnar along the John Wayne trail, we had seen the new trail connector and information board for the recently-connected Olallie trail. Today we gave it a try.

Built predominantly for mountain bikers, the trail undulates and many of the turns are banked. Overall, the trail is very well-defined, wide and clear of loose rocks and protruding roots. It was raining steadily so we were able to appreciate the well-placed drainage channels. It climbs steadily away from the John Wayne trail at a moderate rate and passes several nice viewpoints. Overall, the steep forest glades and ravines are quite beautiful and peaceful.
