Avoided the memorial day weekend crowds by taking a trip into the Blue Mountains. Started low at the Panjab TH and hiked Turkey Creek and then Mt. Misery up to Oregon Butte. Great evening views up there. There was a truck at Teepee TH suggesting the road from Godman is at least mostly clear of snow. Turkey Creek trail was quite muddy. Mt Misery trail to Oregon Butte still has snow to cross in places but wasn't too bad. Took a day hike out and back on the Smooth Ridge Trail to McBain Springs which was flowing strongly. Then continued on the Mt. Misery trail to Indian Corral and took the Panjab Trail back to Panjab TH. ~15 trees across the Mt Misery trail between Oregon Butte and Indian corral and another 6 across the Panjab Trail near its top at Indian Corral.

Beware of: road conditions

This is a road report.

Had to turn around about 3-4 miles from the trailhead due to a patch of snow covering the road. I probably could have made it through, but I wasn't sure what the next few miles would have. The way the weather looks, it will probably be gone or easier to cross in the next week.

I have a 2014 subaru legacy if it helps.

Beware of: snow, trail conditions

Did a short little 2 night/3 day loop.  This loop would be an intense one day trip during the Summer with more daylight hours, or a pretty easy overnight loop.  We gave ourselves 3 days because we were expecting a lot more snow and we are inexperienced snowshoers.  We had snowshoed Middle Point trail the previous weekend and there was quite a bit of soft deep snow and we were expecting more of the same.  But it got into the 40's the day before this trip and rained, so most of the snow was completely gone below 5800 feet.  So it ended up being a lot easier than anticipated.  It was still a great trip even if it was a little muddy.

We started at the Panjab trailhead.  Took Panjab to Turkey Creek trail, up to Teepee trailhead.  Turkey Creek was running pretty high from all the rain and snowmelt, and there were probably 5 or 6 creek crossings.  We were able to find a downed tree to cross or rocks to hop across without having to actually get wet, but some of them were pretty scary.  We needed to wear crampons when we got to the part where Turkey Creek Trail starts to ascend up to Teepee.  It looked like a lot of horses had used the trail recently and packed down the snow pretty hard, so after the rain, it left some pretty solid and slippery ice patches.

From Teepee, we headed up to Oregon Butte.  We had to put on our snowshoes around 5800 feet.  There's a really nice campsite at the top near Grizzly Bear Ridge.  We camped there that night.  I somehow managed to get a fire going with some pretty frozen wood.

The next day we headed to Indian Corral on Mount Misery Trail.  We got to snowshoe for the first mile or so, but after that it started getting too patchy.  Didn't need crampons because the snow up there was not packed down and it's pretty flat the whole way.  We found a nice established site near Dunlap Spring.  A Chinook blew in and it probably got up into the 50's.

The last day we got on Panjab Trail at Indian Corral and took it back to the trailhead where we started.  It was relatively warm that day.  Almost all the snow had melted.  Panjab Trail was very muddy.

The wife and I stayed a couple of days in the Clearwater LO and had plans to hike to Oregon Butte LO while we were in the area. A great 6 mile r/t hike with minimal elevation gain. Trail is in great shape, albeit a little loose on the West Butte side of the trail. We met Julie the resident LO and as described in a previous trail report, she gave us great ideas for additional hikes and info about the surrounding National Forest.

I have been meaning to check this one off the list for awhile.  Arrived (finally) at the trailhead at 9 am.  A little confusion on the Forest Service roads as they aren't well marked and my GPS told me i had reached the trailhead near the junction of three FS Roads.  Note:  ~ 2.4 miles after the Godman Campground you will come to 3-way junction with FSR 90 and 80 - stay right for another 2.6 miles to the TeePee Trailhead.   Anyway, this was an enjoyable hike.  I saw no one on the trail until I reached the Firewatch station.  The Fire Watch Warden (Julie) is  amazing and spent 1/2 hour showing me the different areas to hike and landmarks.  2nd note: About 1/4 mile after the water trough you will find a junction.  Stay right to go to the Lookout.
