No spectacular views, but it's nice to just walk in the forest and be surrounded by some nice second-growth trees. Walked out to the model airplane field and back, swinging by the beaver pond (no beavers seen). Added on a couple extra miles on the Ewok Trail before heading back to the car. Glad to have seen something of the Kitsap Peninsula.

Fun short trail loop for the shortest day of the year! I've included 5min of video highlights below.. Trail: I left from the kiosk neat Port Gamble's butcher shop, crossed the field and caught the connector trail signed as "To Uplands". Turning right at the first junction you're then on the main Port Gamble Trail, an abandoned forest road. ALong this section are a couple of cool displays: a lumberjack springboard example and then an abandoned bear den you can look inside. After crossing the county park border gate the road eventually starts downhill to where the Beaver Trail starts from that direction. The Beaver Trail winds through the forest and after a boardwalk they are rebuilding you'll want to take the wildlife viewing short side loop trail to see the active beaver pond with a large beaver house near the viewing area. The only winter branch debris across the trail was on the initial "To Uplands" connector trail, and there wasn't much.
