We weren't planning on stopping here originally, but I'm so glad we did! Sol Duc is a really interesting waterfall, different from many others I've seen in that it kind of runs sideways. The trail is an easy decline down to the falls, about 1.5 miles roundtrip, and only another 10 minutes down the road from ancient groves. It was fairly busy when we were there, but not cramped. One critique: would be really nice if people didn't actively smoke weed on the trail, especially since lots of kids and families were around.

Great weather! Parking lot at the top was full+ with a lot of day hikers and some overnighters. The trail was in great condition and despite the peak summer weather, not overly crowded.

Birds spotted: American Dipper and perhaps an Orange-crowned Warbler. Pacific Wrens heard in song.

We extended our hike past Sol Duc Falls to Lovers Lane, which was so beautiful and peaceful. Great mid-day leg stretcher!

An easy hike with a beautiful view. The trail is in very good condition, and not too crowded as we went a little after the Memorial Day rush. We hiked with a 4 yr old and a 1.5 yr old (in back carrier) but did not feel any strain at all. It was easy for the kid to hike up as well because most of the ascent is in step like fashion. There were beautiful ferns and lots of pine/fir cones to keep the kid entertained. The falls is majestic, and so is the canopy like foliage. I am very glad we decided to introduce the kids to hiking on such a beautiful trail.

A very busy trail over the long holiday weekend. Privy available at the trailhead

An easy jaunt to the falls. No obstacles, no snow, no bugs. Again, a crowded trail and throngs of folks enjoying the falls.

Sol Duc Falls is spectacular as always and treated us to rainbows in the mist.
