First time venturing out here but knew of the place from locals. So glad I finally made it. Loved the place and we are so lucky to be able to enjoy the area.
Got a later start that I wanted to but still managed to get in a great hike. It was windy and i was thankful for that because it kept it cooler. I was able to make a loop of my hike and chose a trail not as popular as the Sage Hills and so I saw very few people. I did however see 15 mountain bikers and they were all very respectful. Looked like a blast and I will have to be coming back to try that mode of transportation on the trail.
So Hoyt and I set out to the lower barn and started on the Burts Trail. Wowzer. So beautiful. So many flowers. I couldn’t stop taking photos. We saw 1 snake early on but it wasn’t a rattler. It’s a good thing because I almost stepped on it.
Our next leg was the Glacier View Trail. Yep you guessed it. You get a great view of Glacier Mountain and the Enchantments. This trail has a section where the flowers were so abundant. The best of the day.
The 3rd segments was the Horse Lake Trail. This wasn’t as spectacular as the first two but it still was beautiful. Parts of it were on the Old Wagon Road. You eventually end up by the upper barn. There were trees at the upper barn and the shade was a welcome rest stop for Hoyt.
Our loop was about 6 miles. Very little shade on the trail. Very dusty. If it hadn’t been windy it would have been super hot. Views for miles. Flowers everywhere. Such a cool place.
Be sure to haul your trash out. Some people left their trash in the privy and the volunteer wasn’t too happy, which I can hardly blame her. In so the understand people. You have a vehicle with you. Put your trash in the vehicle.
