This is a fabulous early season hike. With grey skies and the wind howling in Port Townsend, we thought for a hot second about bailing, but we persevered. Our reward was a rain shadow day, with well over half our walk in beautiful sunshine and out of the wind. Lovely conditions for forest bathing.
Road is in great shape...a few shallow potholes in the last mile, but nothing to get excited about. Thanks in part to the WTA crew that was out earlier this month, the trail is in fine condition all the way to the river. There are signs of "trail TLC" all the way down if you look carefully. The crew cleared away part of the very impressive big tree that fell across the bridge, but part of it remains as a reminder of the powers of nature and gravity.
Yes, the return is uphill, but it's a pretty gentle climb. Gaia had us dead on 6 miles, clocking in at an easily distracted 3 hours. And we never saw another human.
