Road to the trailhead is in great condition. Right after the Heather Lake trailhead, the road up to Pilchuck is gated and blocked with concrete blocks.
There's a downed tree about a half mile in but that was the only notable obstacle. The trail was very wet. At times it felt like walking up a small creek. There's intermittent snow along parts of the trail until you get to the lake, at which point it's becomes continuous. The loop around the lake was snow covered but didn't need to pull out the microspikes yet.
The lake itself is beautiful even on a grey day. There's a slushy layer of ice forming on the northern part of the lake. Despite a full parking lot, the trail itself did not feel very crowded.
