This hike is a nice hidden gem on Bainbridge Island that my friends over there use to train on. It reminds me a little of Cougar Mountain in that you can do whatever best suits the day: a small flat hike or a steeper hike with some elevation.
Today we started from the main parking lot on NE Marshall Rd and did the two steep sections, the Westwood Trail down to the beach, then the link over and down the Russ Knudsen Trail. From there we visited Gazzam Lake, then headed down the Veterane Trail to the water. We finished by taking the Gazzam Lake Loop Trail back over to the parking lot.
We ended up with about 7 miles total and 1200' of elevation.
The trail is perfectly maintained. There are no obstacles. The two steep trails are easily avoided if you just want to see the lake, but gave us some nice training elevation today which is somewhat hard to come by on Bainbridge. The forest is mossy and beautiful.
