Trip Report

Lake Serene — Saturday, May. 12, 2012

Central Cascades
Bridal Veil Falls
Trail seemed a bit overgrown after the logging road, but clears out well after 1/4 mile stretch. We headed up to the falls first and they are quite a sight right now with all the fast snow melt. The bottom of the falls on the way to the lake is a great rest stop to take a breather before the climb up to the lake. The mist off the falls is quite refreshing. The trail to the lake was mostly in good condition. Couple of easily passable blow downs and snow the last quarter mile. I forgot my Yaktrax but snow was soft so had a bit of traction with my hiking boots. Not much of a problem to traverse the snow portion. The lake is still mostly covered with snow. The infamous "Lunch Rock" is also under snow so we found an alternate dry spot to have ours. Was hoping to see some avalanches across the lake from Mt. Index into the lake but no such luck today. Mt. Index looks majestic as ever from the lake. After our lunch we headed back down. Encountered a lot of people on the way back. Also saw a WTA party working on the trail putting a new foot brige. Thanks ... You guys are awesome! Stats: Time to Lake (including the side trip to falls): 2:50 Car to Car: 5:00 Elevation Gain: 2000ft Distance: 7.2 Miles (RT)
