Duckabush River — Friday, Dec. 27, 2013

Olympic Peninsula
Duckabush trail is weirdly free of snow and ice with nothing but a few mild impediments to 5-mile camp. Pics are at: The trail is in great shape, and the drainage work in the first couple of miles is a lesson in peerless, durable maintenance (thank you, WTA!!!). Privy at trail head is unlocked and road accessible in any vehicle. We started hiking at 10 a.m. and saw no one to 5-mile camp (my husband stayed at Lunch Rock to bask in the sun). On the way out we saw 7 other hikers, so still a lot of solitude for a sunny Saturday. This hike was special to me as somewhere along the way I attained 100,000 feet of vertical gain for hikes this year!
