On 8-26-14 the last 30 feet of the Glines Canyon Dam was removed freeing the Elwha River. The 8 interpretive sites at the Glines Canyon Overlook area describe the history of the dams on the Elwha from the beginning to their removal! The exhibit is very informative and well done. There are 10 parking spaces with a restroom at the site. A ranger was present to answer questions. There is a trail from the exhibit area which takes you along the river. The former boat launch area is now open and you can access the trail from here, too. The East side overlook can be reached by a 1.5 mile walk on the Whiskey Bend Road which is closed to vehicular traffic because of a slide.
