Fremont Lookout, Burroughs Mountain — Oct. 25, 2015

Mount Rainier Area > NE - Sunrise/White River

I noted that the "hike of the week" is Dege Peak, accessed via the Sourdough Ridge trail at Sunrise, or alternatively from the Sunrise Point parking area (makes it a very short hike). apparently not too many people were up there today, but I was up Fremont and Burroughs One (no time for them all with the weather forecast we had) Hiking this morning under a low cloud ceiling with occasional sunbreaks- and veiled views in the distance-- it was very beautiful, and there was almost no one around giving you that "wilderness" feel only a couple miles from the car. Saw a few goats on McNeeley peak. Strong winds however, and later in the day as the front moved in, VERY strong winds, low visibility and snow showers. that's when I left. But still a great day. Check the weather closely, we may have one or two more days that are possible-- maybe call park info to be sure the road is still open as planned-- bring your extra layers, and get out for one last hurrah before the end of the month. Note also there is no potable water up there and no visitor services are open so be self sufficient.
