Monte Cristo Ghost Town — Sunday, Sep. 10, 2017

North Cascades > Mountain Loop Highway
Main area of the ghost town

Great day for a hike! The temperature was perfect out. Our group got to the trailhead around 10 and the lot was full so there were a lot of cars parked on the road. The Barlow pass parking lot only holds about 12 cars. Bathroom was in excellent condition although it was out of hand sanitizer, luckily I carry some.

The hike itself was very peaceful despite the cars, not sure where everyone else went? Maybe up the gothic basin trail instead. The trail is on the old road for the most part so it's nice and wide and flat. This allowed our group to have a nice walking chat.

We loved stopping and reading all the historical markers along the way. When we got to the town it was incredible. If you keep going up and to the left to Dumas street there are some more houses that you can actually look inside. There are some old mattresses and a cool old stove.

We had lunch at the picnic benches in the main area. There were a couple horse flies buzzing around but we kept everything wrapped up for the most part and that helped.

When walking around there are some old artifacts laying in the grass, be sure to watch your step. The boys pushed the old train turnstile and it still works! So cool. Our group had a good time but I would agree that my phone said we did about 9.5 miles that day too.
