Trip Report

American Lake, Naches Peak Loop — Saturday, Aug. 24, 2019

Mount Rainier Area > Chinook Pass - Hwy 410

Did the Naches Loop to the PCT and then down to American Lake this weekend.  The Naches Loop section of the trail was packed with day hikers, too many kids to count, people feeding wild animals, trampling off trail so overall that section of the trail was pretty annoying for anyone that gets upset when people aren't respecting nature.

Once you turn off to Dewey Lakes you immediately lose the crowd and things get peaceful.  We didn't experience any bugs the whole way which was great.  The weather was foggy so we didn't get any Mt. Rainier views. It took us about 3 hours both ways. There were 5 established camping spots at American Lakes with only 1 group there when we arrived, 2 more groups arrived after us. The lake was peaceful with no bugs! Lots of birds and chipmunks.
