A really cool trail that makes you earn the views. I was working so hard that I missed most of the blueberries on the hike up but they were a nice distraction on the way down for most of the hike and there was good water for pups until about the halfway mark. I didn't find the bugs to be very bad, avoided getting bit (without bug spray) until hanging out at the top where there are some impressively large, black flies and mosquitos.
I think everyone paying attention won't have an issue but I took the first trail on the left after getting onto the Iron Horse Trail. It takes you down to a cool creek with a vintage culvert but there is no sanctioned connection to the McClellan Butte trail. There is good signage for the actual trail, I just needed to keep going a couple hundred yards further.
