First hike back in the PNW, and this is an old favorite. The road is terrible. We made it up in a sedan, but it was a calculated game getting around all the craters as safely as possible.
The air was clean, but very foggy. There wasn’t much of a view at the top, but we looked at this positively—it was like we had ascended to heaven. The clouds dissipated partially on the way down, so we could see farther. But this was a very different experience on Pilchuck from what we were expecting. And that made this trip special.
There were tons of ripe berries, and I wondered how hard it would be to collect some and make blueberry pancakes at the top of the mountain. Next time…
