Mount Rainier Area > NE - Sunrise/White River
Upper Lake covered in snow but melting out

Intermittent short snow patches started below the lower lake; 2 1/4 miles from the trailhead, 3/4 mile from the upper lake. Trail becomes completely snow covered a bit past the lower lake, 1/3 mile from the upper lake. Microspikes are not necessary, but are helpful. I hiked up without spikes but opted to hike down with spikes. The trail is pretty obvious most of the way, but there was one point where I checked the route on my Gaia app just to make sure I was still on trail.

Lower lake is snow free and the surrounding camp is mostly snow free. Upper lake is covered in snow. The edges of the lake have melted out (are no longer frozen as they were in earlier reports). The majority of the area surrounding the lake is covered in snow, but there are some snow free patches. I opted to turn around at the lake rather than continuing up towards the Gap due to the snow.
