Snow-covered logs on Lena Lake

Remy’s Good Dog Report for Lena Lake:

Arrived at the trailhead around noon; the paved road is in great shape, and there’s plenty of parking for my humans, who enjoyed the functioning toilet near the trailhead. I came prepared with leash and coat, and my humans kept me on a short leash from the very start - the road at the trailhead is a proper road not a dead-end at the trailhead.

Started at a brisk pace and enjoyed all those great deep-forest colors and smells. No snow on the trail; light snow on the bridge crossings; and lots of trees, ferns, and canopy breaks for the sun to filter through. No animal sightings but I could hear birdsong. My humans kept me on leash for the entire journey, which was smart because we encountered lots of other hikers and hike dogs like me.  Everyone was well-behaved!

At Lena Lake we took a short stop at the first lookout just beyond the upper Lena Lake cutoff (a lovely winter view and popular hangout for humans), then we continued another minute to get down to water level. Got my paws wet. It was cold!

It started getting dark on the walk back, even at 2:30pm, once the sun goes down behind the hills in the winter the conditions change quickly. we had a brisk walk back to the trailhead, enjoyed a water break and full brushing & towel-off, and departed.
The best part of the trip - ice cream at Hoodsport Coffee Co!
