Had a short day to work with, so I made a quick run up to the Loch. The 3.5 miles along Weyerhauser tree farm roads is not exactly the most inspiring, but trout enthusiasts know that there are certain compensations. After crossing over the North Fork Snoqualmie River on the narrow wood bridge, continue about two miles and look for the gated road angling up to the right. Park by the lower road. Hike the road past the gate, taking the left fork after a short mile. Then up... up... The views would be great, except for erosion scars and massive clearcuts. When you have climbed far enough that you hear the roar of the creek, and it looks like there just might be a lake off to the left, you're there. The 75 yard access trail from the bend in the road was recently cleared and the lake is open. The lake is very pretty. Be sure not to become so obsesed with the fat, aggressive rainbow trout that you fail to notice!
