Beware of: trail conditions

I arrived at the parking area off of Little Mountain Road around 9:30 on a cloudy and chilly Monday and it was about half full. The privies are clean and stocked at this time and a parking pass is not needed here.

I hiked a loop today with the following outbound route: Hop Connector-->La-Z-Boy-->out and back using the Cairn, Nature, and Sidekick Trails-->La-Z-Boy-->Lower Surfer's Way-->Upper Surfer's Way-->Mossy Rock-->Up Quick-->West Loop-->Bonnie & Clyde's-->Ginny's Trail to the viewpoint. After a quick lunch at the viewpoint, my inbound route was as follows: Ridge Trail-->Mossy Rock-->Upper Surfer's Way-->Over The Top-->Rooty Trail-->Hop Connector to the parking area. Strava measured the route to be about 7.6 miles and I was back to my car around 1:30 or so.

The trails I hiked were mostly dry and in good shape with few obstacles to report. There was a little mud here and there, mostly on Lower Surfer's Way. Also, the West Loop has a tree down over the trail and I managed to get over it by stepping on some nearby branches and straddling over. There was evidence of recent trail clearing and maintenance so thank you to the crews that have been out doing that.

It was a quiet day at Little Mountain and I only saw four other people total during my hike.

Well maintained network of trails on this mountain park. The trails that allow bikes can get a little muddy though. There are two viewpoints at the top that are accessible by car. The toilet at the bottom parking lot didn't smell too bad and was stocked with toilet paper. Finding parking was not an issue.

This was the site of my very first WTA work party, so I decided to come back after a few years. I linked together several shorter trails for a total of about four miles. The trails were beautiful. I’ll definitely bring my pup next time!

I took Fred’s Trail on the way up, and wow, it was steep. Huge thanks to WTA for all the recent work here; it really shows after so many recent work parties.

A good work party working under our crew leader Lee. We helped decommission some social trails along the Sidewinder mountain biking trail and the Bonnie and Clyde trail. We removed some invasive holly from along the trail too. It was a great and productive work party and we got lots done. Looking forward to my next one there.

The perfect way to celebrate my son’s 5th birthday! Part of what he wanted to do today was go for a hike at Little Mountain and see the old car and the bushcraft forts. It was foggy with sun peaking through the trees and it made the forest magical! A few muddy patches but overall, very dry. We only saw a few hikers but the parking lots all had lots of cars. Views of Mount Baker and the Olympics from the different viewing areas. Bonnie and Clyde does have switchbacks when you start and end but majority of the hike is flat along the side of the mountain. We took Ridgeline back to the car.
