WTA has been working on the Quick Up trail for about a year now, our crew today worked to haul rock down the first quarter mile of the trail for staging of a rock retaining wall that will be going in at a later date. After hauling rock our crew then hiked the Bonny and Clyde trail to the junction of Fred's Trail. We then headed down trail a little ways to the new re-route that WTA is putting in.

during the day, we had most of our crew peeling logs that are going to be used for a wooden retaining wall on a steeper section of the trail to hold the trail in place. We also worked on digging around and cutting our roots off of a large stump that is right in the middle of the trail. Our day was sunny and rainy.

Bonny and Clyde trail is very nice, once you get up the few switch backs at the beginning (near Quick up) it levels off. It winds around and has an amazing feature of a car, which we keep thinking is from the 30's or 40's and a safe. Hence the name of the trail.

This is a great  trail for families, just be aware it is open to bikers.

Until next time,

Happy trails!

This is a nice low elevation park with lots of looping opportunities.  We usually go here when we visit the Skagit Valley for birding or tulips.  You can tell that the local Mt Vernon hiking community has put a lot of work into making this park nice.  I'm sure they are very proud.

You can access the trails either from the south (Darvil Tr) or from the northeast (East Trailhead).  We did the latter this time.  Very nice 2nd growth forest throughout.  Most of the trails are open to Mountain Bikes but we didn't encounter any.

One adult, two kids, two dogs, great little day out for some forest bathing before the holidays. We checked out some of the WTA progress (we worked earlier this month with a trail party) it is looking great! We combined various different trails to make about a two hour outing. We parked at the (open) gate at about 10:40, went up to Bonnie and Clyde, dropped down to see the WTA work, then went up and did part of Fred’s trail. Visited both viewpoints at the top, then worked our way back down to the gate. Saw a few bikers, not too many hikers on this Monday. Quite a few picnickers students the top who had driven up and parked.

Worked as part of WTA work party. Existing trail in great condition. Hauled rocks and built some new sections of trail to avoid erosion.

The truck and safe on the trail is interesting (hence the name bonnie and clyde), one might wonder how did it got there and someone from work party told there is a road above it and it must have fallen here before these trees were here. Thick forest though. Nice to be out here when everything else is frozen.

This was a very nice morning series of hikes around the Mountain. Great views along with very well kept trails. We will be back to explore more and a little lunch in Mt Vernon never hurts either.
