In a way to get back in shape and train, I decided to start doing the trails on the great little park with my toddler. We decided on the Bonnie and Clyde trail. The trail is pretty easy starting out. The signage seems to disappear when you get close to the top and so we ended up going up some steep trails to the viewpoint. An older couple couldn't seem to find the proper way up as well. Fun trail though!
After a minor setback last weekend on the originally planned hike, we settled on Little Mountain Park to get a few miles in before our return to Seattle.
There were a few cars parked in the lower lot. The park is well signed and maps of the various trails are available at the trailhead and parking areas.
We chose to take the Rooty Trail to Sidewinder to Ginny's Trail up to the viewpoint. There was a few inches of snow at the top, but the trails were mostly clear. The view was beautiful with a nice, covered pavilion and picnic area at the top.
This is a nice little piece of forest right off I 5 in Mt Vernon. If you just need to get out this is close and easy access. You have two viewpoints, one overlooking the Skagit Valley and the other one looking north toward the foothills of Mt Baker. Most of it is a walk in the woods, you can tell there used to be some big old growth trees once, lots of huge stumps. There are lots of trails, you can get a decent workout in about 2 hrs. I highly recommend downloading the map in color and printing it out, or using the app. Most trails are signed. Not much to take pictures of.
