Beware of: snow conditions

There was a sunbreak in the midst of terrible weather, so I took advantage of the opportunity to cure my cabin fever. Little Mountain Park is a nice place on the Southeast side of Mount Vernon. While only 1,000 feet in height, it has some steep climbs and numerous pleasant trails with some great view points. This was a good winter outing despite the current weather pattern.

On such a beautiful day, we had to get out and enjoy the sunshine. Not wanting to travel far or spend all day hiking, we chose the nearby Little Mountain trails in Mount Vernon. We parked just outside the gate since we began hiking before 10am when the gate is unlocked. We hiked the very steep .2 mile hiker-only trail till it intersected with the multi-use trail, then continued to the top via the road. Took some photos of the views then followed the switchbacks down beyond the viewpoint looking north and continued on the trail that parallels the road. When the trail again intersected the road, we started on another hiker-only trail to the left, but it didn't appear to be maintained so returned to the road and followed it back to the gate. We probably hiked only about 2 miles. We look forward to returning sometime and exploring the other trails in the park.
