Spent the 4th of July weekend at a vacation rental in nearby Coupeville and had the opportunity to do this beautiful hike at Ebey's Landing. As might be expected the parking lot was busy due to the holiday, but we had no problem finding parking and despite hectic conditions at the trailhead, we had the trail to ourselves for much of the way. Conditions were sunny and mild with a cool breeze. We hiked up and out on the bluff and returned on the beach. Most of the wildflowers were past, but there were still some in bloom here and there. Excellent views of Whidbey Island, Puget Sound and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, but the distant Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges where mostly shrouded in low clouds. A juvenile Bald Eagle soared above us as we hiked the bluff and we spotted another adult on a dead standing tree above the trail.

I headed out early this morning to hike Ebey's Landing, arriving around 9:00am. The parking lot was nearly empty that early in the day and I only saw one other set of hikers until I circled back to the parking lot near the beach. I did do a shorter hike, starting and ending at the lot at the end of Ebey Landing Road. The trail was in good condition, although the wildflowers were growing across the trail in some sections (particularly on the switchbacks going down to the beach). Bees were an annoyance, but I suppose that's the price you pay for all of the blooming flowers. The walk back along the beach was nice. You can walk on hard packed sand for the most part, but some portions do get rocky. Overall it was an enjoyable hike and I will definitely be coming back!

What a beautiful hike! We took the 8 am ferry from Mukilteo to Clinton and arrived at the trailhead around 9 am. The trail was quiet and had few people around. The trail across the bluff is breath taking. We had our large dog with us and at times the trail was a bit narrow for him but he none the less loved it. The path to the beach was pretty easy and the wide open beach was incredible. This is a must do for people looking for a long hike with out elevation and breath taking views.

A fantastic hike at Ebey's Landing National Historical Reserve. Three mile round-trip hike. Half of its up on the bluff with spectacular views and the other half coming back is on the beach. I consider it to be one of the best beach and bluff hikes in the state. If you are ever on Whidbey Island and love to hike it is a must. The trail is suited for all ages if you follow the signs and do not take any short cuts. The trail down to the beach at the far end is well made and has a gradual descent down to the beach with several large switchbacks. Checkout the video of this hike or over 350 other hikes I have mostly in Washington State on my you tube channel at "lmm3181" or click on the direct link to this hike below. The pictures and video speaks for themselves so come check it out. As always get out and see this beautiful state and enjoy your hiking! Take Care Mike
