Started at the Prairie overlook Trailhead, Easy to find parking, and definitely take a moment to turn around at the trailhead and take in Mount Baker. Worked our way towards Bluff Trail. There was a group of 4 playing their loud music as they hiked, but we were quickly able to pass them and get ahead of the racket. The Bluff Trail had some short hills that were enough to get your heart rate up, but the views are completely worth it. There were quite a few gnats! Narrow trail, so if you get vertifo or lose your balance easily, be careful, it’ll be a long roll down the hill to the beach. It wasn’t too crowded this day, and enjoyed the long walk along the beach before getting to the turnaround to head back up the stairs to end our loop. Be sure to stop and reward yourself with a nice cold beer at Toby’s Tavern in Coupeville afterwards. Very much enjoyed this hike and will likely do it again as I have family on the island.

This was another hike I've never been on recommended by fellow hikers. We parked near the cemetery and hiked down to the road, following it to the end of the road and up a little hill where we me a couple of retired teachers who gave us a few tips. The best of which is to hike along the trail on the North bluff and then take the trail to the beach for the return loop. At the start we paused on the entrance to the North bluff. We could see from Mt. Baker to Mt. Rainier and everything in between! Turning our heads to the right we could see the prairie unfolding below and a little more to the right - the Olympics. Breathtaking summer views on a warm April day. Tiny little wildflowers were blooming and just a few occasional small swarms of gnats. I really enjoyed the tidal pools from up on the bluff. I will certainly do this one again this summer.

Beautiful as usual! Just wanted to make a note though that my friend was bitten by a tick on this trail so beware of those nasty guys!

very scenic & pleasant! many flowers & not many people this morning :) i have a torn leg muscle but was able to hike this with no issues because it was essentially flat. hiked from the overlook trailhead on the bluff trail to the top of the switchbacks and then returned on the same bluff trail: 4.1 miles, 526' elevation gain. recommend bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, an antihistamine like claritin, and binoculars or telephoto lens.
