We parked near the Ebey house (they have an open house on weekends, but we didn't get time to check it out) on the Cemetery road. This lot didn't have any signs requiring Discover pass. Bio toilets were clean. The long straight walk to the bluff gives a panoramic view of the agricultural fields with the sea in the backdrop. We then took the bluff trail, which had a lot of hornets burrowing into the sand everywhere. They didn't seem to mind the hikers. The views from atop the bluff were breathtaking. The switchbacks down to the beach were a bit scary, especially when carrying a toddler on your backpack carrier. From the beach, if you want to go back to our starting point, you have to either go back up the bluff and return the way you came or you can stroll through the beach which will take you to the other parking lot and then walk up the gentle slope back to the starting point. We chose the latter even though it adds a mile and half to the hike.

Quick walk along the Ebey’s Landing bluff loop early Saturday morning in the thick fog.  Discovery Pass required as per normal.  The pit toilets were open at both the upper and lower lots, (but the newer pair in the upper lot are much nicer and far less used.)  Walked a counter clockwise lollipop loop from the upper lot out to the bluff trail, north along the bluff, then back around along the beach making use of the inner trail that runs along the west side of Perego’s Lagoon.  No specific trail issues other than some of the bluff trail is growing in a bit so your legs get scratched up from the native rose shrubs, etc, but nothing long pants or even just some additional care can’t solve.

No views at all due to the fog, but one somewhat unusual result of the thick fog is that we were treated to an “orchestra” (or maybe brass band?) of fog horns from all the boats out in the channel, kinda cool.    Not a bunch of wildlife out but there were a couple bald eagles, heard but did not see at least one raven, several flocks of sparrow along the fence line from the upper lot and there were bunnies all over the upper fields area.  Don’t miss the big kelp beds that run just off shore all along the beach.  A very nice, relatively easy walk even in the fog.

Absolutely stunning walk along the bluff with clear views and blooming foliage. We spotted bald eagles and seals easily, and the weather was perfect.

Hiked the bluff/beach portion of the Ebey's Landing Trail.  3.5 miles. Drove around and over Deception Pass. Arrived at parking lot at 8:45. Beautiful day! 5 other cars there at that point.  Headed up and along the bluff. Just saw two people while walking the bluff and three people on the far end of the beach. Saw eagle, two bunnies, one snake. Arrived back at trailhead at 10:30. Very full parking area with people waiting for my spot as I finished up.

Fantastic hike with beautiful Puget Sound Views!  Hiking the wildflower covered bluff, the elevation gain is in the first 1/4 mile, then a sandy, narrow trail leads you gently around the bluff, ending with a switchback decent.  Return to the trailhead via the beach…you never know what you might discover! (Crabs, beautiful rocks, mermaids purse, even a washed ashore baby dolphin?)

Not too busy…ground hornets were profuse, so bring your epipen if your allergic, but they didn’t seem to mind us hikers.
