My husband picked the trail today. As much as I was hoping for an eastern Washington flower hike, I do love Ebey’s Landing. Sunshine and flowers! I got exactly what I was looking for.
We started with a trip to the Pacific Rim Institute in Coupeville. We did a big loop, about 2.5 miles. We listened to the birds singing and enjoyed the flowers and fresh air.
For Ebey's Landing, we started by the cemetery and looped around the prairie, up along the bluff, then down to the beach, making a big counter clockwise loop. I was surprised it wasn’t busier. It was a little crowded by the beach parking lot but not bad on the trail and we had long stretches on the beach with no one around.
The trail on the bluff is very dry. Be careful because the ups and downs can be a little slippery. Lots of flowers and more to come! Happy trails!

I parked at the lot just past the cemetery and hiked the full loop down to the beach and back. Such a pretty trail. Great views. Saw several groups also out hiking on this beautiful Friday. I stopped to watch the waterfowl swimming in Perego's Lake. It was easy to get to from the beach and offered more solitude and a break from the beach slog. The beach is rocky and not the easiest walking, but is good exercise. The trail along the ridge drops off quite steeply in places. Fine for most, but I would hold the hand of little ones.

We started at the Prairie Overlook Trailhead, passed the blockhouse, and headed west. As we walked that path, someone was plowing the field to our left; birds lined up along the freshly turned earth. When we arrived at the T at the west end, we turned left, down the gradual slope to the south end of the beach, near the Ebey's Landing parking lot. Then we went north on the beach, and up the switchback trail up the steep slope. We found that this was actually our preferred direction, since you didn't have to go down the steep part of the trail. Lunch on the top of the bluff at a wide place in the trail, with a log to sit on, and daydream across to the Olympics, basking in the sun. Trail was in great shape. Low tide -- check the tide tables before you go, so you have a nice place to walk on the beach!

A beautiful day at Ebey’s Landing. My 3 kids and I started with the bluff trail down to the beach. We stopped to play in the sand every so often on the way back to the car. We saw 6 types of flowers blooming but not everyone would consider a dandelion a wildflower. To each their own. The little purple storkbill flowers were my kids favorites. We had to stop and look at every single one. We also saw the cactus, which they thought was the coolest thing! Views of the mountains were amazing. The trail is not dusty or muddy and besides the incline on the way up the bluff, the trail just rambles along giving you amazing views of the water, the Olympics and Mt Baker at times. I can see why people take the beach first and the bluff trail back. That way you don’t keep looking behind you to see the Olympics.
