A lovely little trail to watch the sunset, search for whales and sea lions, or learn a little about San Juan history. Even on a weekend evening, this state park trail was fairly empty despite the crowded parking lot. Could have been that most visitors were there for the whale singers rather than the hike.

It was a beautiful day out - sunshine and blue skies. If you're a beginner hiker, this one would probably be difficult for you to do if you go past certain points, because multiple areas of the trail were completely washed out (so there were some tough spots to get through; rocky and slippery). Recommended for hikers who'd like a little bit of a challenge. The views were stunning and worth it though! It was pretty cool walking down old train tracks and seeing the river rushing next to it. A few tunnels to walk through as well. We even found some big rocks right off the trail overlooking the river that ended up being the perfect spot for a mini picnic.

Went with Bre. Lighthouse was easy to get to. Trial continued on in what was supposed to be a loop but we didn't continue the whole thing. It looked like they might have closed the original trail and created a new one.

It's not much of a hike at 1.25 miles but it is one of my favorite spots for a picnic. Lots of orcas today! Tip- reserve your spot on the ferry from Anacortes. It doesn't cost anything and you just have to check in 30 minutes before departure.
