Great mid-morning hike. Got there around 8 and saw one other person on the way up and a fair few more on the way down.

Trail was in great condition, with no notable obstacles. It’s a short hike with decent elevation gain and it took me 40 minutes to get to the top with a few water breaks for my dog. The scramble at the top isn’t too bad and I was able to get up by foot as was the dog. I imagine in the rain it would be a different story as it’s fairly steep and rocky. Forest road was in good condition, even for my Golf; only minor bumps.

And that view.

The road up is a bit bumpy but nothing like Summit Lake or other roads. Plenty of parking. The trailhead is off the side of the road and I missed it at first. I actually hiked up to the wrong trailhead at first and ended up on the PCT before I realized I went the wrong way (this is definitely a me problem!).

There’s no toilet at the trailhead so plan ahead.

The trail itself is great. It’s steep but manageable. The last portion gets a bit confusing and is more of a scramble than I planned but I used the cables be my dog managed fine and the payoff was worth it. I was worried it would be too smoky but we were able to see rainier and it was gorgeous! It took us about an hour to go up and an hour to get back. Will definitely do again.

Thankfully, gravel recently poured on the forest road, many of the potholes filled in.  Long awaited rain in the AM, but clear skies by noon.  Great half day getaway, best bang for the buck this side of Rattlesnake.

This trail reminded me of Dirty Harry’s trail but no rocks until the last scramble to the top. Nice moderate progression all the way up without being tough. I think my Fitbit claimed a bit longer than 3 miles round trip, but 3-4 miles is nothing hard to tackle.

Three 10 yard road zones required slow speed and minor road navigating on the gravel road portion to trailhead. Trailhead is exactly where google maps ends your destination, no issues there.
I ate about a dozen berries but nothing was really there yet. Some fall foliage starting probably due to dry weather.

I’d like to go back in Fall to see foliage and views on sunny day.

Beware of: road, trail conditions

Some earlier trail reports complain about the access road (FS #9070) but have no or few complaints about the trail. My opinion is the other way around. The road is overall in good condition by typical NW standards. There is little washboard and there are few significant potholes. There are rough stretches with loose rocks strewn across, however. Sedans driven slowly, carefully and with just a trifle finesse will make it just fine.

The trailhead is not marked on FS 9070; the trail sign is ~200 yards up the trail. At the trailhead, the road is quite wide, and there is ample parking.

The trail is steep, rough and washed out in places. The scramble to the top is not recommended for seniors with challenges, such as this reporter.

The views are great.
