Kendall Dogwalk
It's s'pozed to be a Katwalk. Dogs can't read.
Leave it. Good dog!
Al the corgi passed his Porcupine Test. He alerted to it, but didn't even bark. In doing so, he saved our biggest exploit so far. Nice to have a dog with low prey drive. The animal was initially sunning itself on a log. Very long, wispy fur (not the armament) shining tawny in the light. It looked like something you'd want to stroke and pet. Without a dog to point them out, I suspect we pass these unobtrusive animals all the time. Another reason to keep your boots in your tent or pack at night. Nothing messes with a porcupine except a fisher, which can flip and disembowel them. I've seen the aftermath of this -- in, of all places, Fisher Creek.
Summit sunset
Otter Point bivvy right on the summit benchmark, 9:05 PM. Clearing clouds revealing the sunset, and roiling mists created a rosy halo.
Big Al monitors the universe from Otter Point summit bivvy.
Otter Point, 6360, head of Necklace valley near Tahl Lake (Tank Lakes area). Chimney Rock in background. Morning, Day 3. We came from W Fork Foss River #1064 via Iron Cap Mt. (Foss Lakes High Route). This summit was the only snow-free ground we set foot on the previous day, which featured a gloomy morning, improving weather, perfect snow-travel conditions, all lakes frozen but Otter, Iron Cap summit, no-tent bivouac on the Otter Point summit benchmark, enthralling sunset, starry night, and calm sunny dawn. 11 on a 0-10 scale. Not bad for 6" legs.

Little Quilcene Love
This photo was taken at the trailhead for the Little Quilcene Trail.
Pratt Mt. summit view.
Kaleetan in background. Daytona 500 weekend is a good time for the backcountry; it's quieter. This is about a 5 mi hike.
Pratt Mt. summit
An easy 5 mi. snowshoe. One could return via a loop to Granite Mt. and down its SW ridge. Kaleetan & Chair peaks in background.

Corgi on Red Mountain
First Place Offbeat Outdoors, 2010 Northwest Exposure photo contest. Al (Allegro) was a 3 year old, 25 lb. Pembroke Welsh Corgi, although his legs are about 6" long, this hike is no challenge for a corgi, bred for herding cattle on small farms in Wales.
