Snowshoe Trails At Sun Mountain Lodge Winthrop
Friend in my summit crew of Mt. Adams. Visibility at the top was minimal, however it was a great trip despite that.
A delightfully easy snowshoe in a dramatic landscape!
A spectacular day of snowshoeing near Mount Baker's Artist Point.
Cloud trails caught my attention hiking down the hill.
The road up to the trailhead was covered in snow about a mile and a half out so my friends and I had to hoof it up to the parking lot. After that we we climbed for about a half mile to the closest viewpoint. The mountain views were stunning and the temperature was surprisingly mild. However, the wind was wild and we had to turn around. We found out that running down a slope in snowshoes isn't the best idea, as this activity ended in a few wipe-outs.
Due to snow, we had to leave our car a mile or two away from the trailhead and snowshoe up to the parking lot. We began ascending the trail and went another half mile before we got an exposed area that offered a spectacular view of Mt. Hood. Unfortunately, we weren't prepared for the extreme wind and decided to turn back. The air was crisp and mild, and the mountain views were wonderful, it well worth the trip!
Rattlesnake Ledge, seen from the John Wayne Trail parking area near Rattlesnake Lake. If you look VERY closely, you can see hikers at the top!
