Trail was fine for the entire way up to the lake, went from the lower trailhead up to the lake, not bad a few trees across the trail. It was extremely cold at the campsite at night however.

Pleasant hike. There were patches of snow as we got closer to the lake but mostly clear, nothing difficult to navigate. The trail was very wet with running water across in quite a few places but generally not muddy/slippery (just make sure your shoes are waterproof).

The Lena Lake trail is a very popular early-season hike. It’s a well-built and well-maintained trail, although every time I have hiked it I have marveled at the work that has been done to discourage people from cutting switchbacks-and the ever-evolving location of new places where switchbacks get cut! That said, the trail was in good condition. There were about eight logs to step over; other than them, no obstacles, and a hat tip to someone who has cleared branches and winter debris off the trail.

By the time anyone reads this trip report, the intermittent snow on the trail will probably have melted. It was really interesting how much of the trail was covered by running water- snowmelt springing out of the hillside in a lot of places, but almost always less than an inch deep, which means boot-clad feet stayed dry. I went just a short way up the trail to Upper Lena Lake, which had more snow as soon as I started uphill.

There’s a notice at the trailhead that the composting toilet at the campground is out of order, so if you’re going to camp, plan accordingly.

A few scattered patches of snow, more by the campsites but very doable in boots. Trail has wet spots due to melting snow. A few downed trees but easy to get over. Quiet, beautiful as the buds are popping out. Ran into a few folks on the way but had the lake to myself for quite awhile. Great way to welcome spring

My partner and I went on this hike because it had been one of the nicer days this year, almost 70 out. The start of the hike had very little snow and lots of sun, the elevation gain wasn't too bad but as you got further up the temp dropped significantly and I would recommend having shoe spikes and or hiking polls. From the viewpoint you could see the lake, frozen over, with bubbles stuck in the ice. Lots of waterfalls on the way up the mountain.
