Hiked to Lower Lena on a very warm and very hazy mid-August day. The fires near Brinnon made the sky hazy, and probably contributed to some of the crowds since all hikes along 2620 were closed.
Road to the trail is paved and in perfect condition. Arrived at 1030am to a full parking lot but snagged a spot on the end. Lost track of how many people and dogs we saw!
took us about 6 hours RT with time spent at the lake. Doggo was VERY slow.

My teenage nephew and I spent three nights at Lower Lena Lake with a day hike to Upper Lena Lake.
Lower Lena Lake trail is a beautiful and easy climb up to a pretty lake with a great view. Once you stop and take in the first peak at the lake, you hike down into the camping area about 1/4 mile down an easy but rocky trail. Many places to set up camp with options right on the lake or up in the woods with some privacy. While the composting toilets are out of order, there is a small pit toilet just beyond the composting toilets to the left, marked with pink ribbons and signs.
As others have noted, the ducks and chipmunks are habituated to humans and spend a lot of time begging for and trying to steal food. We had to make sure to keep our food in a bear canister and a bear bag at all times, so that they would not raid our snacks. The lake is a bit murky on the camping end and had warnings about harmful bacteria, so we filtered our water at the far end at the fast moving creek and it was delicious with no problems from our Katadyn filter.
On day two we did a day hike to Upper Lena Lake. The first half was very easy and enjoyable. You’ll get to a wide creek crossing and that’s where we filled up our water for the rest of the journey. The second half was quite a bit more difficult than we had planned. Very technical and slow going but worth every minute of it once you get to the lake. It was misty, wet, and quite a bit colder up top, so we were happy to have brought layers for the day.
Day three rest and day four hiked out. Perfect little trip. Enjoyed ourselves very much.

Nice day hike with a very gradual clumb. Started about 9 am Sunday. Seemed like more people headed up as we were headed down (about 1 pm). No bugs. Trail is clear of obstacles except for one tree that’s easy to step over. There are a lot of rocks and roots. People of all ages and dogs enjoying a sunny summer day.
Trailhead was clean and parking was easy arriving on a Tuesday mid morning. The trail was in good condition to Lena lake, but as it had rained that morning and the day before, there was a lot of slick rocks and roots. Surprisingly compared to the last hike report, the first bridge which is supposed to have water underneath, it was dry, and the second “dry gully” bridge did have flowing water! Camping at the lake was not crowded, probably as it was midweek and with the rain that ended on the first day deterring many hiker/backpackers. After setting up camp, we headed up to Upper Lena lake where there was even more slick rocks with a few wobble moments.
At breakfast the next morning we were visited by a family of five ducks, one mama and four young ones, that obviously have been fed in the past sadly, with one being very persistent at trying to claim some of our food, even nipping at my friend’s and my legs twice. As cute as they are, PLEASE DONT FEED THE DUCKS!
