Beware of: trail conditions

A stunning day in old growth forest. What more could you ask? This trail has some muddy spots but nothing too bad. We followed the trail for 4.5 miles until it ended at the river itself.Except for occasional peekaboo views of nearby peaks, the sights are of the beautiful forest, gorge and river. Surprisingly, there were quite a few bugs. The parking lot was full of mosquitoes. Although not too annoying, it will probably get worse. Also, expect lots of company on this trail.

I have discovered how to hike this trail in total solitude even on a beautiful Sunday: start at 6:30 pm! There was one car at the trailhead when I got there, and those people left just as I started out. The trail has been cleared of the rockslides and downed trees that were blocking the trail. No-name falls was spectacular and intimate at the same time, with impressive water volume. Due to family obligations on Mother's day, I wasn't able to leave Lynnwood until 5 pm, but still managed to get three + hours of quality trail time. There was still hikable light levels at 9:30 pm. Bring your favorite mosquito repellent to this one.

Watch your odometer to find Road 2010, which is 19.6 miles from the start of HW530 East. The signs are down, and we almost missed the turnoff. We left the trailhead at 12:30 on a beautiful Friday afternoon, and saw only three other folks the whole day. The trail is wet and muddy, but the falls at 1.5 miles are spectacular this time of year. Lots of trees down (which the dog hated) and lots of mud (which the dog loved). Many thanks to the folks who have cleared what they could with axes...one day with a chainsaw and the trail will be back in shape. After spending a little extra time coaxing the dog over fallen trees and skinny, slippery log bridges, we made it to the river campsite at 3:15. The sun was shining, the river roaring, and peanut butter sandwiches have never tasted better. The trip back was quicker, and we were back on the road by 5:15. This is a great starter hike for the season-- pretty flat most of the way, but 9 miles was good for our first day on the trails since November. This trail is one I'll remember when non-outdoorsy friends ask me to take them day hiking-- lots of old growth, a river, a waterfall, etc., but not a huge elevation gain so accesible to most folks.

Great hike. This trail well deserves itS ""best"" rating in the Trail Reviews. Some blowdowns and slides past the falls, but all were passable. It looks like the Trail Teams have been at work clearing out the worst of the problems.

The Boulder River trail turned out to be the perfect hike for this cloudy, wet day. Not sure how I've managed to miss this good spring hike before, but I certainly enjoyed it today. The waterfalls at about 1.5 miles are spectacular. The river itself is deep and swift. There are quite a few blowdowns, and one rock landslide, but all are passable with minimal effort (even for the four-legged companion). The trail at times is quite muddy, and often has alot of water running through it, but made for great fun! The trail ends at about 4.5 miles at a lovely riverside campsite. There is very little elevation gain/loss on this hike, but overall a beautiful hike with alot of greenery and water...and even a few skunk cabbage popping up.
