We went halfway (3.7km in) and hike was great. Road in was a classic FSR - a few tricky pothole sections meant driving quite carefully, but was never worried about damaging our rental car (averaged 10-15 mph). Trail was in great shape - shout out to the maintainer volunteers. Waterfalls were nice and river was flowing, albeit the ~30m side trails to get down to them were a bit tricky (though we saw ~7 year olds complete successfully).

Hikes with two families, young kids and my dog! Such a great trail for first time backpackers. All the wonder of the woods without the massive elevation so common in the North Cascades.
kids loved the river, waterfalls, and berries. So many salmon and huckleberries!!!
Warning! Bees nest on the trail, right after the marker pictured below. They’re basically around the next corner. Think their ground nest opening is right on the edge of the trail. They swarmed and stung both times we passed by.
The trailside greenery is also in full swing especially near the end of the trail. Aka, felt like we were bushwhacking a little. But not hard to stay on the trail, and no issues getting through.
Such a great time in a really cool wilderness. Thank you WTA for trail maintenance! It’s fun to see the crews out there and thank them in person!

Beautiful waterfalls. Trail beyond last waterfall is passable, but overgrown with vegetation including nettles. I suggest wearing pants and long sleeve shirt. Went on a cloudy Sunday, not many people. Potholes on road. NOTE: There is a wasp nest, about 4 feet up on a tree trunk, on the left side of the trail not to far after the 3rd/last waterfall. Wasps didn't bother us, just going in and out of their nest.

Not much to say that hasn't already been said. The road going in is full of potholes, 2 yrs ago they regraded it and you could take the low rider. Not anymore. If you drive a regular sedan, patience is a virtue. The loo is closed, plan accordingly. There has been some recent trailwork done on the trail, mostly regular maintenance, benching, filling in gaps with mineral soil and some logout. The first falls is not falling, the rocks are wet, but no more water. The Big One is gorgeous as ever, no pics you've all seen it. Walk about 3 miles in and at the 3rd falls is a nice lunch spot. Monkey down to a couple of nice rocks and get the full view. We didn't go any farther, but we did talk to a couple of hikers that tried to continue, ran into the NW nettle jungle and turned around. Lots of pretty little spring wildflowers, bunchberry in full bloom everywhere, clumps of tiarella, and thimbleberry. FYI if you lost a phone, there is one sitting on the ledge at the TH kiosk totally out of power so can't ID owner.
