  • Wildflowers blooming

This is great time to enjoy the coastal wildflowers and the rugged coastline at Rosario Head. Some of the flowers in bloom include large Wild Roses, Thimble Berry blooms, red and orange Paintbrush, yellow and white Daisies, Cascade Stonecrop, Salal, Blue Buttons, Vetch, and Beach Pea Vine. The views are great as well. We also discovered that you can hike the entire circumferance of the Lighthouse Point island.

Great hike to do with kids. Don't plan on making good time but on having a Great time. We walked and played in the water and climbed rocks. The water weather started out gray and then the sun broke out to make it a really nice time.

I enjoyed Lighthouse Point trail last month, so I took my wife there today. There was a special treat: A large log boom being transported by two tug boats. It was sunny and the trails are easily navigated. There were only four other hikers. The waterfowl were abundant and the scenery is outstanding.

This is a fantastic winter hike, and today was a perfect day for an outing. I hiked from the boat launch parking lot west to Rosario Head, returned to the parking lot and hiked east to Lottie Point, retraced my steps to the sand spit and headed across it to Lighthouse Point. The scenery is magnificent and the trails are great. Only one other hiker on the trail. Go now and avoid the crowds this summer. Five miles total with 1,100 feet of elevation gain. Birds, ducks, madronna trees, and kayakers add interest.

What a gorgeous day! Weatherman said Sunday would be better, but I know better than to let a fine day pass in hopes that tomorrow will be as good. Clean fresh air, brilliant sunshine and 60 degrees in February. Hiked the trails north of the bridge. Only a few birds (Cormorants, guillemot, kingfisher). A few blowdowns but readily accesible alterante trails. Late lunch at Deception Cafe. Clouds rolling in as we were rolling home.
