We had a crew of 13
volunteers to work the Downey Creek trail. After handing out several free Trail Park Passes, and doing the tool and safety lecture (a must!) we all headed up the trail except for Gus and Stephanie who had to stay behind because they were bad. Bob Slater Jr. punished them with his version of the tool lecture for the tarde before they could come play with the rest of us.
This trail is not in bad shape compared to most having been partly logged out and relativly free of water problems. There is a fair amount of slough and much of the trail tread width has been reduced to a foot or less. At about one mile in we regraded a few hunered feet of trail and installed a curb log where a fallen tree's now absent root-ball left behind a 10 foot long by 5 foot deep hole in the trail. After installing the curb log we filled the hole with large rock, then smaller rock, then dirt restoring the tread. To tamp down the dirt we formed a chorus line and did the WTA Cancan which worked pretty well. Then Gus suggestd we try the Riverdance approach. Though this worked better we all agreed it was less entertaining and that people were unlikely to pay $39.98 for a video tape of us doing it. So much for that fund raising ideal!
