I arrived to the trailhead on a gorgeous day and found only a few other cars there. Despite what some books say, there is no longer a bridge at the creek crossing about .25 miles along the trail. It is an easy wade across though--only about knee deep. The first two miles climbs gently in forest and the trail is in excellent condition. At the second creek crossing, the trail emerges from the trees and continues through some slightly overgrown brush for about .5 miles. Once out of the brush, you can see the pass up above. The switchbacks were in fine condition and there is only one brief patch of snow to cross. The last .25 miles is moderately steep and is in loose rock, but is easy to assend. No one else was at the pass, and the views were breathtaking. I didn't see any wildlife besides a few marmots. There was hardly any snow at the pass. Make sure to bring a lot of film!

The North Cascades - Trailhead for Easy Pass is great (even clean restroom!) before heading out. The creek crossing is best done via a log about 150 ft. downstream, rather than at the skinny log located right at junction of creek and trail. Coming back, we just waded it. There are occasional downed trees across the trail but overall the trail to the pass is in good condition. Only occasional snow patches are present, above 5,000 ft. Easy Pass has a resident mother mountain goat and kid, so watch your rucksack. Our objective, Mehsatchie Pk., requires a brutal traverse along Ragged Ridge. Coming back, we found that the Easy Pass-to-halfway point is best travelled at about the 6,650-ft level, staying on meadow as much as possible to avoid scree, and the second half, between campsite below Mehsatchie Col and midway-point toward Easy Pass should contour at about 6,740 ft. level. There was a bearcub loping across the snowfields below Mehsatchie Col, the night we were there. The climb itself, on the icefall, was in great shape, with good climbing toward the far right (west); the couloir was funky, due to the steep but mushy snow and occasional crevasses. Bring a lot of water along for on the way. So far there is plenty of available water at the campsite below Mehsatchie Col.
