Disappointed that the bridge is still out, but we knew that going down the trail. Still a very nice afternoon hike and plenty of time to do both this hike and Silver Falls.

Drove out from Tacoma with my sister (who I have never before been able to get out on a trail). Convinced her this would be a great introductory experience - short, little-to-no elevation gain, but still rewarding...more of a pretty walk. Sadly, upon entrance to the park we were informed that the bridge suffered structural damage this winter and is closed until further notice. So, ended up being a long drive followed by a short walk in the woods. The park ranger guarding the entrance to the bridge was very friendly, though, and we had a nice chat and got her to pose for a photo (attached). Bottom line - check bridge status before you make a trip just for this trail.

The bridge is out I saw other people who said they crossed and not to worry you might just get a ticket...well we talked to the ranger who said the engineers said the bridge was structurally unsound and could give way at any time. When we went there were cones and caution tape blocking the trail, only an idiot would cross, but it is still a pretty walk especially with children. Before the bridge you can head up to the left for 6 miles, we made it about 3 and turned back because it was getting late.

Great hike! The bridge is still 'closed.' Cross at your own risk of a possible ticket (we didn't get one) - seriously, be cautious as NPS rangers are routinely checking in on this trail. The bridge looks like it was damaged in a flood, yet again. The weather was perfect. A definite must if you love big trees.

Today I did a hike from the Ohanapecosh Campground (which is closed but you can park next to it) to Silver Falls and then to the Grove of the Patriarchs. The Silver Falls loop is completely clear and I can't remember any blowdowns on that trail. The falls are beautiful! From the falls, you can hike to the Grove of the Patriarchs, which is an additional mile. The route to the Grove of the Patriarchs had a couple blowdowns that were fun to go over, but not impossible. The bridge leading to the Grove of the Patriarchs is "closed." I'm not entirely sure why, but just letting everyone know, the rangers will be unhappy and will give out tickets if you cross it... It was a great little hike, and there were quite a few people wandering about. I also drove up to Cayuse Pass, and most of the deep snow along the road didn't start until after the tunnel when I was heading toward the pass.
