Very popular trail that is great for all ages. There is little in the way of elevation gain. The hardest part is waiting your turn for the suspension bridge (supposed to go one at a time). Once across you get to meet several ancient giants. We started our hike at 12:45pm and were lucky enough to get a parking spot at the trail head. We expected there to be more people given that it was the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, but the threat of rain must have kept people away. We got to spend some alone time with the ancient trees and eventually headed back. In all the loop took us 45 minutes.

We came in from hwy 12 ..the gate was closed but we decided to hike into the campground and visitors center.. beautiful hike all the same.. ..there was no snow on the roads up to the gate....there was snow inside the gate but tire tracks left perfect snow free spots to follow all the way in. And we still found some huge trees!

So happy we choose to hike Naches Peak Loop before the pass closed.  Gorgeous.  Trail covered in snow the full length, streams and patches were icy. A great day to try out our micro spikes which made it a breeze and oh so enjoyable. I may have needed to turn around without them.  I'll always carry them in my pack now on shoulder season as well as winter.  The blue sky and amazing views of the Mountain were great rewards.    We combined this hike with the Grove of the Patriarchs on our way out of the Park, nice addition and a very different wooded forrest hike to enjoy the large trees and beautiful green Ohanapecosh River.

We did this one today coming back from a backpacking trip.

Why should you do this tiny hike?

1) The suspension bridge is fun, and - unlike the Carbon River suspension bridge - not so high or over such a roaring river.  (I have a fear of heights.)

2) The trees are amazing.  The interpretive loop has things worth reading.  The boardwalk is fabulous.  And did I mention the trees are amazing.

3) The river is an awesome place to play at.

My friends and I were camping at the Ohanapecosh Campground and included this hike with the Silver Falls hike. It adds two miles round-trip but it’s a really cool, educational addition. If you start a little bit later in the afternoon, there will be a wait at the suspension bridge, as it is recommended that only one person cross the bridge at a time. It’s a really short loop, but it’s fun to see the trees. It’s definitely easy enough for children to complete this loop.
