Mt. Rose, My friends and I arrived at the TH at approximately 10:30 AM and proceeded to hike in. The trail is in awesome shape due to someone/s spending, what must have been an enormous amount of energy and time on improvements. the trail starts at a good pace and maintains it throughout the hike. There are some very nice benchs at some decent enough lookouts along the way. the trail is stepped with logs and rocks all the way. We hit snow at about 3500' and had to follow trail markers on the way up but the way was traveled enough and eventually the snow cover dissapears and you get the trail back for the last few hundred vert. ft. The clouds were rolling in at the top so the view was basically a white out, but it was good just to be out on the trails in decent weather. If the weather was to hold out until a person got to the top, the view would, I'm sure be worth it with Mt.Ellinor and Lake Cushman below... well happy trails.. J.R.

Wonderful trail to the snowline at about 3400'. Someone's been working hard making this trail an outstanding uphill walk. I haven't visited here in several years and was impressed to see a sign at the fork distinguishing the summit (left) from the ridge route (right). We chose the left fork. Once on the snow it was easy to follow with tape blazes and other footsteps, though several of the blazes have been removed. Cold weather made the snow nearly crampon-type hard but thankfully no postholing involved. The stream crossing was a little tricky because of the hard snow and steep bank Ski poles came in handy here. Fog at the top prevented seeing much but during one short break we got a glimpse of Ellinor.

Lotsa wet heavy snow starting below the waterfall spur trail, well below horse camp. We got ""lost"" as usual at the stream crossing, followed footprints that were just as lost, slogged on up in weather better than expected. Topped out to a semi-view and no precip (thank you very much), and on down we went. Trail is in fabulous shape due to the efforts of those fellas who maintain this trail all winter. Much thanks to them!
