What a wonderful little hike with an excellent payoff! Trailhead is easy to find and the road wasn't too bad, a few potholes here and there but if you go slow, you can easily make it. Trail itself is well maintained, no obstacles to maneuver. Elevation gain is minor, and the more steep parts occur on the return trip. The descent into the gully that holds the falls is a bit steep, but nothing major. We hiked with our 2 Year old and he managed it just fine. I got brave and climbed up to the first tier of the falls, if you choose to do so, watch your footing climbing up the root system on the wall up to the splash pool below the first tier...and if you cross to go behind the falls, watch out, the rocks are super, super slick. The cold water felt excellent on a hot day though! (hiked June 2nd, putting in a late trail report) Oh, and there are beautiful wild rhododendrons blooming trailside right now, although they're on the tail end of their bloom season. Well worth it, and in fact, this might be a good, quick trail to run without major elevation gain. Trail head has a sign marker now! But of course I didn't see it right away... Despite the two trucks parked at the trail head... The gps location takes you about a half mile past the trail head. It has a pretty good turn out on the left as you go up the road and the trail head is right across from it!

Beautiful!! Short hike in and out (maybe 45 min?) that's suitable for bringing the kiddos. Fair warning though - the trailhead was not well marked when I was there - I passed it and continued up the very narrow mountain road before finally finding a place that I could turn around. At the time, the trailhead was marked with a large boot on a post - hopefully they've rectified this for the summer. ;-) What's really lovely about Murhut is the amazing breeze the falls gives off - not only a gorgeous view, but super refreshing on a warm day. There's a rocky path down to the river that I didn't climb down to, but definitely plan on exploring next time when I'm hiking with a partner.

Wonderfully easy trail with a great payoff! Some people complained about the potholes, and while there were a lot, they were fairly shallow and easy to navigate. Our main issue was finding the trailhead. It's a small turnout on the left, with the trail on the right. The trail is unsigned, only marked with a boot on a post. We skipped this at first as there was no sign and kept following the forest road up. We went nearly 2 miles in before turning around. The forest road was beautiful though and made a nice accidental detour!
