Visited Murhut Falls on the first stop of my multiple waterfall-visits today on the Oly Pen. The falls are flowing extremely heavy right now with all the rain we've received, but they were beautiful nonetheless. From Bellevue to the trailhead took just under 2 hours, and the hike up to the falls took only about 15 minutes. Word of caution: Duckabush River Road, once the pavement ends, is extremely pot-holed, and could be an issue for low-clearance vehicles. I bottomed out my sedan at least three times...so drive slow and pay attention!

The dirt road to the trailhead wasn't in the best shape. It's littered with sizable potholes and we were swerving all over the road to avoid them. It's not so horrible, but if you have low clearance with your vehicle I'd find another trail. The actual Murhut Trail, couldn't be any easier! It's very well maintained, very popular, and super short for such a cool waterfall. Please keep in mind that the trailhead location might not be in the proper spot as shown in this map. It was acting very strange when I wrote this report.

The road, which is unpaved after the Interrorem Cabin, has quite a few potholes and was covered with water in one part. It wasn't anything that would stop even a normal sedan, though, and we reached the trailhead easily, finding only two other cars in the parking area. This is a nice, short hike to an impressive set of falls—I am surprised they don't get more press, given their close proximity to the city and the ease of the hike. There were some nice peekaboo views of the surrounding peaks along the trail, which was in good shape. Lots of streams flowing, and the falls were raging—this was a great, snow-free hike in the Hood Canal area.

Was a perfect secluded afternoon walk in the woods. Went with a 70 year old hiking companion that had knee replacement surgery two months ago and we had a slow but enjoyable hike and can't wait to come back in the spring! The falls were beautiful.
